positive: | Very fast lens, small and very light. The former means that you can use available light in situations where others would have to use flash or a longer exposure. |
negative: | Not particularly sharp wide open, but that adds to the effect. Screw-driven autofocus is slower and noisier than modern ones. |
comment: | After getting it as my first non-kit lens, it stayed on the camera as if glued there for 18 months, and has been much used since. Lots of my favourite photos have been taken with this one and the results have been blown up to A2 without embarrassment. If I ever go FF, it will still be usable. 5/5 in terms of value, one of the four lenses I would keep if I had to cut down to a handful. |
