ownership:I own this lens
compared to:Tamron 70-200, Tamron 150-600.
price paid:1700 USD
positive:Very sharp at all focal lengths. Only slightly heavier than 70-200mm. Three focus hold buttons. Range limiter. Very well built. Easy to hold and shoot. Good bokeh.
negative:Not completely weather sealed. Lens hood can pop off.
comment:This is a great lens on both my A77 ii and A99 ii. I was surprised that it wasn't heavier; it weighs in only a hundred grams more than my Tamron 70-200. The AF is fast, the range limiter helps. It is very sharp at long end. I've been using it for bird shots; on the A77 ii it gives me an effective 600mm. I debated buying this lens or the Tamron 150-600, but the Tamron's reported softness at 600mm, its weight, and its lower quality build swung the choice to the Sony. Very pleased I bought it; since I got it I use my 70-200 much less frequently. Highly recommended.
