ownership:I own this lens
compared to:Minolta kit zooms/24f2.8/28-135f4, Sigma24-60f2.8/24f2.8 Sony 18-70/24-105 Sigma 28-80 Mini Zoom Macro (the absolute worst lens I’ve ever encountered.)
price paid:$30+$5 shipping
positive:Dirt cheap, fast focus, as quick or quicker response to change of camera position than any lens I’ve ever used. $30 in like new condition. Focuses to 4” @18mm & 4.25” @55mm, at least my copy does. Weighs nothing, may well be the best performing dirt cheap lens out there.
negative:Plastic mount,no one will envy you.
comment:Quite a pleasant suprise. I picked one up like new for $30 after getting the 55-200 a couple weeks ago. One of my biggest gripes on the magic color Minolta glass is the ridiculous minimum focus, and slow/hunting focus. What this lens may lack (no gripes here yet) in image quality it more than makes up for in quick focus. Minimum is focus much shorter than the Minolta’s and even 5” less than the spec. (@ least my copy) 90% of everything I do is internet posting so for my use I find this lens amazing!
