negative:Price, but the price/performance is high. Dimensions
comment:This lens in awesome. I own it since 2 years, paid €500 used like new. It has exceptional sharpness, flare control. AF is very fast once updated to V02 firmware. It is my main lens on my A6000, after trying a bunch of f<35mm primes as "standard" walkaroud lens for causal shooting.
The 24mm focal length is also very handy wrt to narrower ones (2 kids) and not so wide. It is welded on my camera until I need a headshot.
Its very ligthweight and also small, but not pocketable as a pancake.

positive:f/1.8 - and it's usable too (sharp enough and the DOF does not get too narrow).

Secret feature: it doubles as a poor man's macro.

Lightweight, balances well with a small camera such as NEX-6.
negative:I'd expect a 24 mm fixed lens to be much shorter... (pancake).
comment:This was my most used "walk around lens". Got some nice steet photos with it even at night - despite the lack of stabilization.

Short min. focusing distance is an added bonus. This lens can focus down to the edge of the lens hood! Without sacrificing shapness.

It's not a real macro, thought. Due to the short FL, max. magnification is 0.25X. Yet it's capable of photogaphing faily small items. Even in not-so-good light! Much easier to use than a real macro lens!

comment:I use this lens on my NEX 7 and it performs just great, also for night photography. It is extremely sharp right from f1.8.

positive:Gloriously sharp
Fast to focus
Light weight
negative:Long length
Focus by wire requires lots of practice
comment:This is a phenomenal lens. From 1.8 it's very sharp and I find I used it regularly and don't often reach for my 85/1.4 if this is mounted on my camera. I find the images pleasing and the focusing performance to be fast and accurate.

It's a shame it's as long as it is, but the light weight makes up for its size. Its cost is a prohibitive factor as well, but this is the realm we exist in.

compared to:Kit Zoom 16-50mm: I would only use the kit zoom if I need the flexibility of a zoom otherwise the 24/1.8 stays on mostly.
Leica M 35/2: Sharpness very very close. Zeiss glass always warmer while Leica more neutral. Just different signature.
price paid:1100 USD new
positive:Superb sharpness & contrast. Very close minimum focus allows good use of f1.8 aperture for excellent OOF/bokeh effects.
Light yet very well made. I dropped it (ouch!) and found a dent on the outer ring near front element. Lens still works like nothing happened.
negative:Price! But then still relatively cheaper compared to Leica glass; sorry for making this comparison but Zeiss is in the same league optically.
Would have been great if it were also designed for Full Frame ... but price would be even higher (at f1.8)!
comment:A highly recommended and must have lens for APS-C Nex owners. Beware it will be cropped on A7/A7r full frame bodies.

compared to:A-mount 35/1,8SAM with adapter EA-1. As both are APS-C lenses, I prefer 24/1,8Zeiss focal length (36mm equiv) much more than 35/1,8SAM focal length (52 mm equiv). Both are sharp, but 24/1,8Zeiss is better at F1,8 ... F2,8.
price paid:850 EUR
positive:Great sharpness at F2,8...5,6
Great centre area and enough good overal sharpness at F1,8
Great colors
Lightweight
Well protected with the hood
Good AF speed with NEX-7
Good for MF use
negative:No OSS
Expensive for tenous use
comment:This prime has been in my kit over year and is still the best for e-mount aps-c cameras IMO. But I really miss OSS, because shooting with 1/10 ... 1/30s hand-held is very important for me. NEX-7 & 24/1,8 combo is very light and even 1/30s is risky speed, so I keep 1/50s as minimum. More than 50% mounted on my NEX-7.
The only serious competitor can arise from Sony 18-135/3.4-5.6 OSS now about 1/2 year, because I feel I have finally zoom I like more than previous models step by step sold and replaced. After next few year I will probably add comment, that 24/1,8 is 50% mounted, 18-135 about 40% mounted and 20/2,8 5% mounted. I am very much convinced, that 24/1,8 will lead the rancing up to the end.
I decided after few years patient waiting to buy 35/1,8 OSS, as my feeling was, that there will be no 24/1,8 lens with OSS for aps-c and IBIS on aps-c body. After few weeks experiens I just can say, that, compared to my modest 35/1,8 OSS copy, 24/1,8 CZ OSS can be incredible value. This lens can be your only prime, even your only lens.

Added in June 2017:
a6500 & 24/1,8 are excellent combo. No better normal to wide prime for me to mount on a6500.

Added in Oct 2018:
This lens has been in use more than 6 years now and looks totally new, despite it is mounted about 50% of all my lenses. The main reasons I have it, are sharpness, great colors and small/light shape. It is probably the only lens I will never sell or replace, till I stay with e-mount aps-c.

compared to:Zooms and the Touit 32mm
price paid:1000.00
positive:As sharp as a lens can be without costing several thousand dollars. In truth, this should be a 5 rating for any mere mortals. Built like a tank, but a reasonable weight. Very sharp wide open and is perfectly sharp by f/4. Corners are slightly soft until f/4 when it is just as sharp as the center. Very fast and accurate focus.
negative:None other than price. Some would say the lack of IBIS, but would the lens be this sharp with all that going on in the lens?
comment:This is a top notch lens and a lens any Emount shooter should aspire to. This would be a lens at the pinnacle for any mount. As an owner of a Zeiss Touit 32mm, I constantly debate myself which of the 2 will remain with me. I rationalize that 1 has to go because they are so close in FOV. The 24 is better built by a little and has faster AF. The 32 is a tad sharper and mf is a dream. I'll probably keep both unless I find 1 dominates my camera much more than the other.
