ownership:I own this lens
compared to:Minolta AF 50mm f1.4
Sony CZ 85mm f1.4
Sony CZ 135mm f1.8
price paid:1100 GBP
positive:Looks great, good build, smooth quiet SSM focusing, the usual Zeiss Alpha quality.
negative:Plastic lens hood (vs 85 & 135 metal hood)
Expensive versus other 50/55mm primes
comment:Exactly as I expected from a Zeiss Alpha lens - great build, sharp, good colours. A definite upgrade from my Minolta 50mm f1.4. The size is almost identical to the CZ 85mm f1.4 though a little lighter. It fits very well with the A99, and would likely be nice with the A77 too. The SSM focusing means you don't need to turn to the likes of the 24-70 f2.8 for fast smooth focusing.
