ownership:I own this lens
compared to:tamron 17-50 2.8, sony cz 16-80
price paid:Kit lens
positive:Good build quality, dust and moisture proof, IQ, fast, focal length, SSM motor
negative:pricy & a bit heavy
comment:Just got this lens as a kit with A77 camera some days back. Haven't tested it much. but this lens works well with the A77 and feels better in the hands than my earlier Tamron 17-50. The Tam is good for A700 but imho its cheap build and noisy AF is not suited for A77 and its video abilities. The sony beats the CZ in quality, built and aperture. End of the day this lens has been especially designed to handle 24mp resolution of A77

A must have for everyday use. All i can say is super quality, quite, fast and great IQ. Bokeh is lovely.

IMHO sony should have called this a 'G' lens. unbelievable that sony has provided this as a kit lens. Wonder whats in store for the A99 in future.
