Sony FE 100mm F2.8 STF GM OSS E-mount lens review by Cekari
|Cekari#36808 date: Mar-31-2017|
flare control: 5
|ownership:||I own this lens|
|compared to:||Sony - FE 90 F2.8 Macro G OSS|
Sony Carl Zeiss - 135 F1.8 ZA Sonnar T* (My previous sharpest lens.)
Minolta - AF 100 F2.8 Macro D
|price paid:||$2018 New|
|positive:||Bokeh amazingly smooth up to about f8 and good beyond.|
AF on a STF!!!
Extremely sharp at f2.8 all over except the extreme corners where it’s only very sharp.
AF is accurate, fast and very silent.
One can choose whether to adjust the aperture on the lens or on the camera or auto .
Focus hold button can be set as eye-focus in camera.
OSS really woks great.
Weight only 700g for this big lens is impressive. Internal focusing keeps the balance of the set.
Close focus option.
Works great with the Kenko extension tubes for FE.
|negative:||Non really, well, a T-stop at 5.6 is a tad low but I believe it would become a monster-big lens if brighter as it is quite big already compared to the Sony/Minolta 100mm f.2.8 Macro.|
Expensive, but hey it's a GM lens.
|comment:||Love this new lens that is going to be my no 1 lens for E-mount.|
Will compare it with my previous favourite, the Sony - FE 90 F2.8 Macro G OSS when time and wheater permits it.
More on weight: Only 200g more than the A 100/2.8 Macro and 100g more than the FE 90/2.8 macro and 300g less than the ZA 135/1.8. Time will tell how it will withstand wear and tear in the long run as it’s not an all metal lens but feels very solid.
It’s expensive but the GM really shows what it stands for.
I believe for sure that Sony made a winner here!
Discoverd yesterday that in some circumstances one can indeed get some hard to fix fringe. Water agains the sun and the reflections gets purple/magenta and even some green on tings sticking into the water. Also at min close shots some subjects will give some too but not severe..
Edit: Discoverd 3 days ago that certain small patterns creates moire that is hard to fix, same pattern with other lenses doesn't give this effect :-(
