positive: | Everything, this is a marvel of a lens |
negative: | No Optical Stabilization. When using IBIS and relatively long exposure times you may feel the edges of the image are not sharp. That is not the lens, that is motion blur as IBIS doesn't work so well in 14mm FL corners. No hard infinity stop, awkward for astro photography. The bulbous front element makes the use of front filters near impossible. Perhaps a dedecated filter holder for very expensive 150 mm filters will be made by 3rd party. Rear gel filters are a possibility but it appears cumbersome to me. |
comment: | Small, lightweight, super fast. Wide open performance is very good. AF/MF switch, manual aperture control possible with aperture ring on the lens. |

positive: | + Light and compact + Excellent image quality |
negative: | - Cannot take front filters - Custom lens cap - Fairly expensive |
comment: | When I first time tested this lens, I was surprised by its light weight and compact dimensions. And as expected from GM lens, its optical performance is first class. Obviously an ultra wide angle prime does not suit every shooting situation, but if you have situation where this focal length is suitable, then this lens delivers great results. Works especially well in astrophotography. |

compared to: | All other ultra wide full frame camera lenses by any manufacturer to date. |

positive: | Almost everything. I even passed on my beloved Voigtlander 15mm to my son. |
negative: | Use the manufacturer profile setting in Capture One. Don't use the profile provided for the lens if you need straight lines. Sun stars are not as good as those from the Voigtlander 15mm. |
comment: | Simply the best lens of it's type yet made. I have been using my copy for a couple of months now and it is just mind blowingly good. Just make sure that you use Sony's correction profile and not Lightroom or Capture One's if you want the best results for interiors and architecture. |
