ownership:I own this lens
compared to:Sony Carl Zeiss SAL2470F28 ZA Vario-Sonnar.
price paid:AU$1,916.00
positive:Fine optics, solidly built, good controls, quick to focus, weatherproof, sharp, fine image quality.
negative:Weight, but it is around 70gm lighter than the Sony Carl Zeiss SAL2470F28 ZA Vario-Sonnar (and around 200gm lighter that the Zeiss plus the LA-EA5 adapter that I had to use on my a7iv camera).
82mm front thread means I've had to buy that diameter UV and CPL filters, whereas most of my other Zeiss and Sony G a-mount lenses are 77mm.
comment:A fine wide to medium telephoto zoom, native to the e-mount.
Has been overtaken by the smaller, lighter Mark II version but that latest lens comes at quite a hike in price.
With it becoming superseded, Sony Australia offered price match against other sellers plus AU$200.00 cash back, reflected in the AU$1,916.00 price I paid.
