comment:This may have been a temporary pricing mistake by a couple of large retailers. Sony is currently offering a $50 sale on this lens, not $150 off. This is the same price I paid for the 40 G a few months ago. The older competing Tamron and Samyang primes are both available new for under $200 now. "Made in China"

This lens is optically more like the larger Tamron than the smaller Samyang. It does have more barrel distortion than the Tamron and darker corners than either those lenses. It is sharper near the edges than the little Samyang. The Distortion Compensation is forced enabled, so the optical barrel distortion cannot be previewed in live-view.

The less expensive, but slightly larger Samyang 24mm F1.8 is sharper throughout the frame with nicer background rendering and less corner shading.

I kinda wish this used a similar ugly hood as the 40 and 50 mm primes, since that design makes the focus control much easier to use. This little circular hood is reversible however.

Overall a decent compact wide-angle prime option for the A7C. Sony lenses do focus better than the third-party lenses. If focusing and extra controls are less of a priority the third-party options may be a better deal.
