comment:I've been avoiding buying this lens since it was released, and finally decided to try it via an Amazon Warehouse deal. It looks nearly identical to the 40 mm, but the focus ring doesn't rattle on this one. "Made in China"

Center sharpness and contrast are very high but the edges are inconsistent. I returned this copy after ordering a second one. The second copy is not quite as sharp wide-open in the center but has sharper and more consistent corners. This seems like a decent trade for a small F2.5 prime.

positive:Small, Sharp, FAST AF, build quility.
negative:Price, only f/2.5
comment:I found a used copy of this brand new lens and jumped because I needed a 50mm that could focus faster than the nifty 50 f/1.8 and couldn't bring myself to spend the money on the overpriced Zeiss or suffer the size and cost of the f/1.4 options. My wife and I use this lens in studio with speed lights and usually at f/4 and smaller so the 2.5 wasn't a show stopper. This lens has incredible IQ and blistering fast AF that works very well in the low light of my basement studio. It is so light and small that it ends up in my bag anytime I go out and on my camera more often than I thought it would. My new favorite, I just wish it was an f/1.8 for the same price.

positive:Sharp. Small. Light weight. Functionality.
negative:Only F2.5. Price.
comment:One of Sony's excellent small primes. Small light and easy to carry, this lens is just useful to pop into the bag for shooting outdoor events, which is mostly what I do.

This lens has few issues. The IQ is excellent. Despite the small size this lens even manages to squeeze in an aperture ring, which makes it so much easier and quicker to change the aperture than the camera wheel. Cudos to Sony for this.

This is a far better lens than the 50/1.8 both in IQ, Build Quality and focus speed, which makes it a better, although pricier option than that lens.

All in all I am happy with this lens for what I paid for it, although had It been at list price I am not sure it would have been worth it as there are a lot of other options at this sort of focal range out there.
