ownership:I own this lens
compared to:Rokinon 12mm f/2 prime, Sigma 19mm f/2.8 prime, Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 zoom at 17mm
price paid:829 USD new
positive:Small, lightweight, excellent optical performance
negative:None so far
comment:Excellent performance for Tamron's new wide-angle zoom. I had tested Sony's 10-18mm zoom some years ago and wasn't impresssed; this lens is much sharper. Certainly better corner sharpness than the Rokinon 12mm prime, which has been my go-to for ultra wide-angle. At the long end of its zoom range, the Tamron wide-angle matches the performance of Tamron's own 17-70mm zoom and Sigma's 19mm prime lens. Plus, it is small and lightweight for an f/2.8 lens, so a good fit for the A6xxx cameras. Its a keeper.
