ownership:I own this lens
compared to:Lots of Lenses.
price paid:775 € new
positive:Extremely sharp, really is a match for the 42MP sensor of the A7RII. The compact build makes a perfect combination with the A7 series. Already sharp at F 2.8, getting even sharper if you stop down. And very fair price compared to Sony 24-70 GM.
negative:Could be wider on the short end. 24mm would be great.
Flare control is not perfect (but not a real problem either, if you shoot directly into the sun you will have flare :))
Feels a little cheap. Well it is plastic. But then, this also saves weight.
comment:I thought so long about buying the Sony 24-70 GM, but being a hobby photographer, I could never really justify spending this amount of money on that lens. Plus, the Sony is huge, and I was not really willing to carry the G Master around all the time. The Tamron is the perfect compromise. From what you save compared to the G Master, you can easily buy a nice manual ultra wide angle lens to (over)compensate for the missing 4mm on the short end. And you will still have a lot of money left. Also, I think the Tamron is the perfect size for the A7RII, it just feels right. I can absolutely recommend it to everyone who searches a good standard zoom for the 42MP sensor. This thing is razor sharp.

compared to:Sony FE 24-105G
Minolta 24-105/3.5-4.5
price paid:Borrowed from friend
positive:+Sharpness across focal range
+Excellent AF speed
+Excellent weight and size balance
+Very good close up capability (great to have wide angle close-up)
+Fast lens for a reasonable price
negative:-Bokeh is a bit busy
-Color rendition feels lackluster
-A bit plasticky
comment:I bought the Sony 24-105 several months prior to the announcement of Tamron 28-75 f2.8. If given a second chance I might have chosen Tamron over Sony.

This lens is well made, all parts feels well tightened together and leaves no play. However it does feel a bit plasticky. Weight balance is fantastic, it feels way better than my Sony 24-105 handheld.

Focusing is blazing fast and sharpness is better than my Sony. Close-up is also better than my 24-105 largely due to the capability of wide angle close up(You do get better magnification on Sony 24-105 but at 105mm the DoF is too shallow, same issue is more pronounced on Sony 100-400gm which claims to have 0.35x), while on wider end, DoF is no big issue at all, not to mention the wide angle macro perspective is very nice.

Bokeh is the major deal breaker you can pick on, if there is any. Out of focus area is very nervous if background gets too close to your object. If you got spoiled with GM lens, you may not like the bokeh from this Tamron.

Overall it's a very solid choice for most people to buy, leaving very few professional photographers to Sony 24-70 GM
