ownership:I own this lens
compared to:Minolta AF 100-200mm, Tamron 18-200mm, Kit lens, big beercan
price paid:480 USD (new)
positive:RANGE! Sharpness, contrast, size/weight,
negative:Slow AF (especially in low-light)
comment:Really a fantastic lens. SUCH an improvement over the 18-200mm that you cannot believe the small price difference. I replaced 4 of my older Minolta zooms (and even a 28mm prime!) with this bad-boy. I sold the vaunted "big beercan (75-300mm)" because this doesn't dislocate my shoulder with extended use and the PQ on the 2 is not terribly different.

How they fit all this range and quality into such a tiny lens is beyond me.

Also, 18mm IS quite distorted, but I really like it. Can be used for very interesting perspective in shots.
