ownership:I own this lens
compared to:beercan. sony 70-300g. tamron 200-500. minolta 100-300. minolta 35-105. minolta 17-35 g. sigma 24-70 macro.
price paid:479 USD
positive:A real one-lens travel solution. Light but not flimsy. A remarkable range.
negative:Some vignetting at wide end and softness at long end. Too slow for moving targets.
comment:I wish I'd bought this lens as a newbie to APS-C with the a100. If I had I would have found my favorite shooting ranges and subjects and added low-light primes, macro or longer lenses with a better idea of how I was really going to use a camera.
While it's plastic, I gave it a 5 for build because I'm amazed they're able to do this.
