price paid:£15 s/h
positive:Cheap, very light.

Reasonable optically if you avoid big contrasts when it's colour fringe time. The fringes aren't huge, but you can see them.
negative:Very plastic. There's not much glass, never mind metal.

On a 24MP, you need to shrink the results for them to look really sharp.
comment:I'm not sure why I bought this. Oh, yeah, it was really cheap. I have barely used it since doing some test shots.

For the price, it's not bad. If money or weight is a big issue for you, you could do some OK photos with it. But you can do distinctly better for not much more and the weight of the camera means that it would have to be a really tight issue there.

I do know someone with a Sony body on their drone. Perhaps that is its real use.

compared to:Minolta 75-300mm Beercan lens.
The Tamron doesn't quite match this lens, but isn't really that far off, and is much lighter.
price paid:£25 (used)
positive:Light weight, rather compact and takes up very little space in the bag. A bring every where lens.
Sharp, Good Colours, at all focal lengths, 80 to 210mm.
negative:None
comment:While on holiday in England, I came across a camera shop in the City of Bath. They had this lens on display. It looked so small for a lens like an 80-210mm lens.
The fact that it was totally made from plastic, didn't put me off, as both my Sony 18-55mm and KM 18-70mm are also mainly made of plastic and they both perform perfectly.
Then I asked one of the sales staff, if there was a catch because it was priced so low. I was assured that there was no catch. So it was then just a simple matter of trying it on my A450. It was so light and compact. It worked perfectly and the images on the LCD screen looked good. At that price, I bought it.
On returning home I tried it on both my KM 5D and A37 camera bodies. It worked perfectly on both. I am very pleased with it.
It now forms part of a kit with the KM 5D body and Sony 18-55mm lens. Real light and compact. Anybody out there know when this lens was produced
When I bought the lens it lacked a lens hood. Eventually on Amazon I found what I thought would be suitable hood. It was listed as a JJC replacement for Pentax PH-RBB 52mm Lens Hood for smc Pentax-DAL 50-200mm f/4-5.6. As the filter threads of the Tamron are 52mm, I decided to buy it. The price:- £9.99 plus £4.00 Delivery & Handling making a total of £13.99 which worked out at €16.75 The hood arrived, but it didn't quite fit on as it has 4 bayonet lugs whereas the Tamron only has 2. By simply removing 2 of them off the hood, it makes a perfect match.

comment:This lens use to work okay on my F100. I recently switch to a D600 and the pictures came out bad. They are washed out and distorted. Don't shoot landscape with this lens either. White background pictures are just awful compared to my Nikon lenses. It best works shooting builds and people or maybe outside if you’re sitting on the first base or third base side of a ball game. Otherwise leave it home.

compared to:55-200, 70-400G
price paid:125
positive:Positives are a mixed bag here, this lens can be found usually on a cheap budget and will make for good pictures IF lighting conditions are good AND your subject is relatively slow moving (more on this below)
negative:CA is awful even at F8 or F10 in high contrast lighting but this is normal for many budget lenses in this range. Resolution at 210 can be poor at times and there is a lot of focus hunt at 210 while trying to track an object.
comment:REVISED REVIEW FROM BEFORE:

So I don't think I gave this lens it's proper dues before, so let me revise my opinion. After having this a while now and comparing it to others, it's not bad if your on a tight budget because it is FF compatible. BUT, for those of you shooting crop sensors, the 55-200 can be found used for not much money and I would recommend that over this. 80-210 is a decent range but I found myself in situations where I wish it was a 55-200. I used this quite a bit on tracking fast objects and wildlife and came up with a mixed bag of pictures. Some pictures were great, but others were back or front focused...not to mention the huge about of CA this lens gives off. Most of the CA can be fixed in LR4 (or LR5) but some of it gets complicated depending on the scene. Overall it's just okay, good to start with if you find it below $100 and will work on FF...but always invest in good glass. This will be set aside with my other Minolta relics as I get better and better glass.

positive:Very sharp stopped down
Realistic colour rendition
Very good in poor light
Inexpensive
Excellent flare control
negative:Build could be better
No distance scale
PF in bright sunny contrasty situations.
comment:At first glance this lens looks cheap and nasty. Well it is certainly inexpensive but definitely not nasty.

Very impressive IQ throughout the focal length range and usable wide open with max sharpness attained between f8 and f11.

Usual PF problems encounterd with a lot of older lenses.

positive:- cheap
- very light
- AF accurate and very fast
- pretty sharp specially @ center
negative:- Construction all in plastic
- CA (could be better)
comment:Even if the construction is all in plastic, I did not have any problem with that and there is no impact on the picture quality.
The large and soft rubber on the lense is efficient and give a good protection again small shock.

Much sharper than sony 18-70.
Fast focus
Very good weight.
negative:I have not found any.
comment:I was very impressed with it's sharpness even when shot wide open. Stopped down a little it becomes really sharp. Images from this lens are nice and contrasty and the bokeh is really smooth and nice. Corners are a bit soft at the wide end but it shouldn't bother anyone. Quite good telephoto lens.
Low weight for everyday carrying.
Maybe should be a little longer.
