comment:Although I have owned the Min 100mm for several years now, it always felt a bit clunky. The opportunity to acquire this Tamron f017 version came up recently and I thought, why not!

Really modern looking and feeling lens. Really well built too. This new range of Tamron lenses feel and act just like top range Zeiss lenses.

At f2.8, the centres are sharp, but edges a tad soft. By f/4, everything is sharp and all the way up to f/13, the clarity across the frame is superb. Although some other site reviews mention CA, I cannot, so far, find any issue on bright contrast edges.

Focussing is fast and very quiet. No external movement of the lens at all. A focus limiter switch has three settings. First from 0.3m - 0.5m; 0.5m to infinity and full.

Weight wise, it handles well on the A99 and A68. On FF, it makes an excellent portrait lens and of course on APSC and equivalent of 135mm, so that is also good for outdoor portraits.

Having shot a few macros of flowers too, I am more than happy with the resolution at 24mp. I imagine it would be great on an A99ii.

Overall, a magnificent lens and one of the last lenses ever to be built for A-mount, as it was only released in 2016.

I have never given an all round 5 score for a lens yet, but this certainly deserves it from me.
