ownership:I own this lens
compared to:Minolta 50mm f/2.8 macro
price paid:$469 USD (new)
positive:outstanding image quality
very useful focal length on full frame
negative:none
comment:Image quality is excellent, as you would expect for a prime macro lens. You do need to keep your expectations reasonable however; DOF is razor thin at f/2.8 on FF. Overall size and light weight make this an easy lens to carry. On full frame the focal length is very useful for animate subjects. I'm not a big fan of the push/pull ring for AF/MF selection - it's too easily moved when remvoing the lens from a bag - but that's an annoyance, not a real negative. A high performance-to-price ratio makes this lens a good value.
