positive: | Very sharp, razor sharp beyond f4 |
negative: | none, well maybe the sack, hard to get the lens in and out without extending the tube, and the AF/mf SWITCH. |
comment: | Unlike the previous reviewer I have found this lens to be as sharp and functional as any lens I have ever used in the last 35 years. Extremly sharp even wide open and tack sharp fromn f4 to f11. This is a wonderful lens for macro and portrait work. I would recommend it to anyone. When compared to the Sigma sharpness is about equal, the Sigma is a very sharp well built lens. I would rank this Tamrom above it only because of the focal length, 50 is just too short for many macro photography requirements. A very good lens at a very good price. I gave the build a 4 only because I'm not too keen on the push pull MF/AF switching method. If 4.5 was available that is what I would have ranked it at. |
