ownership:I own this lens
compared to:Minolta 80-200 HS G, Sony 70-300G, beercon
price paid:518 USD (used, LN-)
positive:Constant f4, build quality, colors, weight
negative:Fixed tripod collar, screw on hood, weight
comment:It's as sharp as the 80-200 HS G or the 70-300G; sharper than the beercan. The colors are very comparable to 80-200 HS G and better than the 70-300G, in my eyes. Focus speed is not quite as fast as either of the above but faster than the beercan. The weight is a two-edged sword for me. It's a big help in panning at the races, but you need a monopod or a blackstrap to carry it any length of time. I have the red ring'd early version with a hard case. I highly recommend this lens, if you can find one.
