ownership:I used to own this lens
compared to:Sigma 15-30
Sony 35/1.4
Super Takumar 28 & 35
Minolta 24/2.8
2.8 wide zooms
price paid:Ł85
positive:Ace build
Looks good with orange band!
Sharp
Pretty good colours, contrast
Good size
72mm filter like Minolta
negative:Bit heavy
Distortion of straight lines
Flare at times
AF not foolproof
comment:Smaller than a Sigma 10-20 but heavier. Bigger than a Minolta prime though. Tiny next to Sigma 15-30!
Chunky, solid build and looks right on A700.
Pretty good MFD and the bokeh is pleasant.
Sharp at distance even wide open. Some CA on bright whites. My copy has a stiff zoom and the AF is noisy, unreliable at short focusing distances. Various kinds of flare can be seen in bright sun - not always a disater though.
Still, I like it a lot and i think it can be used as a 35mm with the option to zoom out much wider. The downside - bendy distortion comes into play any wider than 35mm.
Bargain FF lens, though.
