ownership:I have experience with this lens
compared to:Minolta 24-85 mm circular aperature 17-40 mm Canon L
price paid:Ł330 (new)
positive:Built like a Tank
negative:In my opinion not a great performer. Hopeless close focus. Flare prone. Cold
comment:Based on a Angenieux design, interestingly the Angenieux version has a better MTF rating on Photodo than the Tokina. Stopped down it's OK but not great, high CAs also at some focal lengths. A cold lens also. Hopeless close focus. Quite frankly my Minolta 24-85 mm is a better performer and scores an MTF rating of 3.5, against the Tokina's 3.2.

Update: Tried on a900 also. Can produce good results but is out-classed in flare and close-focus ability.
