positive:- Solid build
- Fast
- Good value
- Great handling
- Non-rotating filter
negative:- Soft wide open
- Heavy
comment:This is a big heavy lens, feels very solid and the control rings have a great feel, well damped and smooth like an old MF lens - handling is a big plus for this lens.
This range isn't so good on an APS-C DSLR so I haven't used it much on digital.

However I feel it's a good performer optically, certainly when stopped down. It's soft wide open but this can sometimes be desirable. Stop down beyond f4 and it's very sharp, capable of resolving very fine detail on film.

I usually shoot @f8 or 11, chromatic aberration is well controlled. I don't shoot brick walls, so I can't really judge distortion, but I never noticed anything intrusive.

Comes with a big petal lens hood, which I always use as it can flare easily.
