ownership:I own this lens
compared to:I have a wider range of lenses and do just point at important traits an useful lens should have..
like open aperture capabilities, fastness, sharpness throughout zoom range, true colors, good resolution, details..
and not have .. like distortions, weak picture, softness, CA's, handicaps, and other flaws.

I do assess a lens from its descent, price, age, use, and built quality. It should come up appropriate, like a "tailor-made" mix. Not seen as a straight competition between other lenses.
price paid:€50
positive:well made of metal & glas, quite heavy
sharp, even wide open
best IQ at f/11 with most details & best colors
colors are authentic
parfocal lens!
AF works good, fast enough & accurate, hunts in twilight, micro adjust is recommended
MF is usable though, but short throw of only some degrees
CA's are just a little bit in the decisive focus plain (and in out of focus areas, eg along branches) toward 300mm tele end while at wide open, all disappears after stopping down.
when just using ~250mm tele brings better pictures
distortions didn't come up so far
negative:some may consider the weight a problem
yes the lens is heavy what I wouldn't mind but..
I would recommend the AF to check manually and micro adjust the lens.
no lens hood, go for a simple rubber one having a 62mm thread
comment:This lens is really worth to own. I use it attached to Sony A65 & A77. The zoom range is long enough to have decent telephoto in one body. Anything further would start astro photography. Just kidding..

The lens hates my Kenko AF 2x converter. IQ becomes bad.

I did pay €50 and am happy with it. Have a feeling Minolta AF Beercans are not so sharp and have more CA's. My MAF 4.5/100-200 (1th vesion) would be worse in comparison.

Fun fact:
Another Tokina AF (SD?) lens is highly recommended. In case go for the 4-5.6/70-210 red ring copy which is of same good quality as the big brother. No CAs at all! And starts wide open f/4 unexpectedly sharp. The lens is smaller than the 4/70-210 Beercan but from same finish.
