| comment: | I have bought this lens just yesterday but noticed a few things i wanted to share. this lens is optically a nice lens thus far. However the AF on older body's like the nex 5t, nex 6 etc. isn't as i would have hoped (or called great). i have seen reviews where the lens is holding up to some of the more expensive lenses but i think i can compare the AF speed to a-mount screw drive lenses (some times even needing around 3 seconds in P mode, in A mode it is around 1 sec less, more on that further on). if i put this lens on the a5100 it is faster and a bit less prone to hunt but still nothing to write home about (about 1 second faster). what also sparked my intrest with this lens is that the lens doesn't always go down to de set aperture before focussing. (this apparently has to do with the camera mode. in aperture mode it does what you put in directly, however in p mode it does the above mentioned) which is actually the exact thing that sony original lenses do as well. due to this weird stopping down Feature this lens gets slower that it can be. after some more testing it seems that in A-mode the AF is fastest overall. i don't know why but it is that way. the feel of putting on the lens hood is something viltrox really nailed on this lens. it is so smooth i have never put on a lens hood with so much joy. i don't use it very often but it is nice to put on. the flares can be a bit over dramatic but i like it. |
