Minolta 20mm f2.8
price paid:700
positive:Wide angle of view
Exceptional sharpness and contrast
Very little distortion
Light weight and compact
negative:Nothing significant
comment:An outstanding lens with excellent sharpness from corner to corner. Distortion is minimal. Great contrast. I have mentioned this in other reviews, but I love the color and image quality across all of the Batis lenses. You can purchase this lens on the used market for less than $700 making it an excellent value. I bought mine for $650 and it came with two Zeiss filters.

negative:Nothing
comment:Difficult focal length but with the right subject it is beautiful

positive:Package, Sharpness, Auto focus, Colors, Weight, Usefull LED display
negative:Shape, Hood,Price, Focus ring
comment:Very good, but very expensive. Sharp end to end.
Shape a bit un-even makes it hard to have in the bag especially with hood upside down.
Focus ring could be better.

positive:Well made, weather sealed, excellent IQ. Balanced on the camera.
negative:Hood plastic is not a perfect match for the black of the lens.
Now showing it's age and getting overtaken by newer designs.
comment:This lens is sharp corner to corner when stopped down to f4 and when shooting at 3 meters or more. Wide open and close to, it is outgunned by the 16-35GM and now, 2020, the Samyang 18mm f2.8 FE for a fraction of the price.

compared to:I own a ZA 24 2.0 and use it with the LA-EA3.
The ZA 24 2.0 is a high performer, the Batis 18 2.8 has better corner performance at same f numbers
price paid:1200€
positive:Extreme sharp, not heavy, silet AF, no CA
Best wide-angle lens currently available for A7rIII
Protection against dust and spray water
Lens is very well centered and shows no difference in corner performance (is quite rare for a uwa lens).
negative:less vignetting wide open would be nice
comment:I was searching quite long for an ultra-wide lens for night sky photography. I tested Samyang 16 2.4 for Canon with Sigma adapter, the Sigma Art 14 f1.8 and the Sony mount Samyang 14 2.8 AF

compared to:1635ZA2.8, FE1635 both at around 18mm.
The ZA was quite soft in the corners up to f5.6 at 24MP, up to f8 at 42MP. Everything else was quite well controlled. The FE1635 has far better border resolution, but corners are not getting tack sharp unless you stop down to f8 or f11 (but then you already have to watch out for diffraction). Colors are not so nice than with the ZA or the Batis. The Batis is simply better at all disciplines. It is a joy to use, and it can be a "sun star machine" - it produces so nice ones. :-)
price paid:1.420 €
positive:Sharpness across the frame, Colors, Contrast, filter thread, low CA
negative:If I would be nitpicky I could say, that vignetting and flare resistance is around average for that class.
comment:It is pricy, but worth every € I paid for it. I used it at a two week hiking and it did a perfect job. There is still no correction profile available (neither for LR nor DxO), but you would miss such only for few situations I can promise.
