ownership:I have experience with this lens
compared to:Minolta 100-200
price paid:
positive:Reasonable performance for the price.
negative:Not a particularly sharp lens, expecially at the extremes.
comment:Bought this lens around 8 years ago to get more range than my Minolta 100-200. Added range I got, but at the cost of sharpness which really falls off at the extremes. However it
is pretty good in its mid-range and is useful for candid portraits as long as you don't extend all the way out. In summary, a reasonable budget lens but if you're willing to pay more you can certainly get better. I seem to recall some vignetting on my film Maxxums but no such issues on a 7D due to the crop factor.
