comment:I just love this lens!
It´s light, AF speed is ok.
Bokeh is very good.
I personally don´t miss tripod collar, rarely have my tripod with me thanks to AS.
Can´t deside if i like this one more than my 100/2.

positive:very sharp, very colorful, very lively, very pretty bokeh
negative:tripod collar would be nice, focus ring door flimsy, focus ring has NO resistance, very, very, very hard to find!!!
comment:i just don't know how to put it other than this lense has BLOWN me AWAY!!!

if you are on the fence about gettin one in ANY way, stop thinking about it and GET ONE NOW (if you can find it, unfortunately)

this lense delivers the sharpest, most colorful, prettiest lively photos i have EVER taken...that is the truth.

it's very rare that i come across a lense that will stay with me for the rest of my life (hopefully that's a long time!), but i will tell you, i don't know if i would sell this lense for a 300% profit!!...it's that good!

now, i know that it's easy for people to do reviews and really butter up a piece of gear and it's easy to become biased, giving 5's accross the board, but this lense deserves high marks!

i gave a 4 for build rating because the focus-ring door feels slightly flimsy, no big deal, really...and i would have liked some resistance in the actual focus ring itself, just a personal preference, as i love to focus manualy and i am a very 'feel' oriented individual.

look, all i can tell you is that this lense is a true piece of work.

i didn't buy it to take pictures of the moon or anything like that, i would actually look for an 800mm + to do that.

but with this lense, even though it's a 200mm, you will want to make every effort to use it for portraits as well as sporting events and landscape.

i wish you could see the look on my face when i view the photos i took with it. i have bought and sold many lenses and i have never flipped out like a crazy fruitcake when viewing photos taken with any other lense!

maybe i am losing it, but i know a lot of 'SANE' people who have purchased this lense and they say the same thing i did!!

BUY IT! - DON'T WAIT, as it is becoming more and more rare...i have seen 2 of these on ebay in the last 2 months and one of them was trashed, still sold for just under $600.00

what's that tell you!

minolta (of the past)...simply incedible job guys and gals!

thank you for giving me many years to come of outstanding photography to look forward to!!

price paid:

positive:small, light, also excellent in manual focus, price (used), protection filter included, case included
negative:its WHITE! no tripod collar would prefer circular aperture
comment:This is a superb lens. Wonderful wide open, I do not hesitate to shoot at f2.8 and the images are sharp and bright and well controlled.

Good in AF although no where near as fast as the Canon USM. Brilliant in manal focus. Has a sheild to cover the manual focus ring which is large, when shield is back the rubber ring is about 18mm wide - plenty big enough.

Although it has no tripod collar for monopod/tripod use, the Dynax 7D has AS so it cancels this point out.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

positive:Good image and build quality. Can put cap over MF ring, to prevent accidents and improve grip during AF use. Focus limiter can be handy
negative:Price is high, even second hand
comment:I bought this rare lens second hand in like new condition for my 9. It served me very well as a replacement for the 80-200 which can become very heavy after a couple of hours.
With the 7D, tested it and I was amazed about the AF speed: it is so much faster, it now suddenly beats my 80-200 in AF while it used to be the opposite.
Highly recommended, provided you can find it.
