comment:This seems to be one of the last EX DG lenses before HSM was standardized. Sigma recently replaced it with a new Art lens design with a more complicated formula, but otherwise similar. The list price was $500 with a couple of $50 discounts offered. "LENS MADE IN JAPAN"

It definitely is not as sharp as the little mirrorless 60mm F2.8 Art lens or the smaller Tamron 90mm F2.5. The Sigma 50-150mm F2.8 EX DC HSM II zoom is just as good at moderate distances. The optical quality is much better than any of my normal zooms at the same angle-of-view, but the better telephoto zooms have similar image quality at their short ends. The angle-of-view is wider than the short end any of the 70-x telephoto zooms even the 70-300GII.

This is one of the better EX DG lenses I've tried. It has similar image quality as the other macro lenses and inexpensive telephoto primes. The working distance is less than the Tamron 60mm F2 or the Minolta AF 100mm F2.8 RS.
